Wedding venues in Cornwall
Step one - what type of wedding will you have?
There are so many different kinds of weddings and all of them perfectly suited to Cornwall.
Small and bohemian weddings
This has become the vogue for many years, very much favoured by those who are put off by the big fairytale wedding. Usually featuring a gorgeous garden or barn venue, and always weather dependent. However, get lucky with the weather and your day will be truly memorable. We’re thinking bunting, antique tea service and plates, cake stands and a much more relaxed vibe to the dress code.
Private civil ceremonies
Preferred by those who don’t like a big fuss, the private civil ceremony is often carried out by a wedding celebrant who’ll customise your vows and the entire service around you and you alone. Usually a smaller more intimate affair, the private civil ceremony can often take place in a venue that’s truly personal to you.
Beach weddings are incredibly romantic, and there are countless breathtaking beach locations in the region. Our personal favourite would be run by a company called Beachweddingcornwall.co.uk who will organise secluded sea cove or tidal pool ceremonies. Remember this kind of ceremony isn’t legally binding, so you’ll have to legally tie the knot in a nearby registry office.
The Fairytale wedding in Cornwall
Often the dream, the big dress, the entourage of bridesmaids and groomsmen, the big band, tiered cake and all the wonderfully over the top glitz and glamour. This usually needs a bigger venue and as with all types of ceremonies a gorgeously quaint church nearby, unless your venue has a licence (always check with the venue)
Elopement
When you absolutely positively have to marry the love of your life, and it’s just about the two of you and no-one else. How romantic, and old fashioned. Elopements require a registry office and a witness, for the true romance of it all, it should probably be a stranger you met on the way who has a wildly interesting back story (and a car to get you to a tasteful inn with rooms for the night – we just might know one ;-))
Step Two - The perfect wedding venues in Cornwall
Cornwall is perfectly suited to the chic and carefree bohemian-style wedding. With so many converted barns and manor houses across the region, we recommend two truly stand-out venues, both accommodating for whatever you have planned for your dream wedding.
Hendra Barns near Mitchell
This beautiful location is only five minutes from The Plume and a personal favourite of ours. Licensed for ceremonies too, this spectacular lakeside location has a real focus on sustainability, tranquility and privacy. With two gorgeous venues to choose from you’ll be spoilt for choice.
The Lakeside Arbor
A beautiful open-sided structure crafted personally by the owner Ken Owens.
The Hendra Barn Conservatory
Its L-shaped floor to ceiling walls offer incredible uninterrupted views of the countryside and can cater for up to 60 guests.
The Barn at Pengelly
The Barn is perfectly positioned amidst wildflower meadows and lakes on a working Cornish farm. With three stunning wedding venues (inside and out) including a glass-fronted barn, this is the picture-perfect wedding venue for all kinds of ceremonies and is complete with its very own honeymoon cabin. Which sounds truly delightful.
The Flowers, the church, the celebrant...
So you know you want to get married in Cornwall, you know the area (and these two suggested venues would be wonderful by the way) – just don’t forget the details. Luckily there are so many brilliant suppliers and artisan in this region. Here are just a few we would recommend and some essentials to save you from searching, as we’re pretty sure you already have a lot on your plate already.
