Reasons to visit Cornwall in Spring

While we know you probably didn’t need another reason to visit Cornwall this spring (you know, apart from the blossoming landscape, windswept shorelines and unique wildlife), we’re here to share our most anticipated events of the coming season.

And, from succumbing to a blissful food coma at one of our celebrated foodie events, to dancing the day away at one of our oldest – and most iconic – festivals of the year, you won’t want to miss the spring-time fun.

So, if you’re wondering what’s on in Cornwall, look no further!

Porthleven Food Festival, April 21 - 23

Porthleven Food Festival has quickly become a staple in the Cornish foodie calendar over recent years – and for good reason.

This award-winning event boasts everything from local food and drinks traders to live music and family fun, set over three days and nights in one of Cornwall’s most picturesque fishing towns (you may even recognise it for its iconic clock tower!).

Presented in partnership with acclaimed chef Jude Kereama, this event is totally free to attend and is beloved by both the local community and those across the UK and beyond.

The Tate: Barbara Hepworth: Art & Life Exhibition, now until May 1

Celebrate one of the most influential sculptors of the twentieth century at Tate St Ives this spring. The gallery’s ‘Barbara Hepworth: Art & Life Exhbition’ is a deep look into the background of this renowned artist, who spent much of her life crafting her work in the world-famous Cornish town of St Ives.

There’s just weeks to go to see this exhibition, so don’t miss the opportunity to discover more about how Hepworth led the way for international modern art and left behind a legacy to last a lifetime.

Helston Flora Day, May 5th

For hundreds of years, Flora Day has been an annual highlight and historic tradition for the people of Helston. The ancient festival celebrates the end of winter and the arrival of spring, with the earliest records going back to the 1700s.

Today, the celebration sees thousands venture from across Cornwall to take part in the spectacle, with the first dance (and first drinks) starting at 7am. From then, couples dance through the streets, twirling together through selected houses and shops to drive out the darkness of winter and bring in the light of spring in a maze of colour and fun.

With bustling pubs, live music and fairground rides, it’s an event to be experienced at least once in a lifetime – especially if you love cultural traditions.

St Ives Food and drink festival, May 12 – 14

With its turquoise waters and white sandy beaches, St Ives should be on any adventurer’s bucket list – but time it right, and you’ll get to enjoy the fun of one of its fastest-growing events at the same time.

St Ives Food and Drink Festival offers not only a packed programme of chef demonstrations, it also boasts a hub of artisan makers, food and drink vendors and live music.

From daytime fun for the family to dancing the night away in front of The Lighthouse Stage, there’s no better time to discover what all the fuss is about.

Tunes in the Dunes, May 12 – 14

One of Cornwall’s biggest music events is back for another year! Located on one of the county’s most popular beaches, Tunes in the Dunes is a music festival like no other.

This year, enjoy the likes of the Kaiser Chiefs, the Vaccines and James Bay, among numerous other artists, as they take to the main stage for a weekend of dancing in the sand at Perranporth Beach, near Newquay.
