Your festive dog-friendly staycation in Cornwall

Day-dreaming about the perfect festive dog-friendly staycation in Cornwall with your furry best friend? Here in Cornwall, there’s plenty for dog lovers to enjoy at this magical time of year, all topped with sparkling Christmas lights and roaring log fires.

So, if you’re looking for a guide to a festive dog-friendly staycation (where your four-legged friend can enjoy the seasonal fun just as much as you), let us help. Think coastal walks and paw-friendly adventures – and some of our seasonal favourites.

Enjoy a winter wander with your dog

Known for sweeping beaches and wild cliff-top walks, Cornwall is an outdoor lover’s paradise – especially in the winter months, when the summer crowds dwindle and your pup can run freely across the sandy shores. With beach bans lifted, there’s no better time to make the most of the county’s beautiful coastline.

Some of our favourite walks to take your dog in Cornwall include:

  • Perranporth Beach – with vast stretches of golden sand and plenty of dog-friendly cafés nearby for delicious hot chocolates (and pup treats!), you’re in safe hands in this popular coastal destination.
  • South West Coast Path – We’re surrounded by hundreds of miles of coast path in Cornwall, and there’s no better time to get out and enjoy it. Wrap up warm and enjoy stunning sea views while your dog explores the rugged cliffs and hidden coves (but keep a lead on where mine shafts might be present!). Head to Pentire Headland, and you can even pop into our dog-friendly sister venue, Lewinnick Lodge, for a post-walk pint.
  • Ladock Woods – this idyllic woodland is just minutes from The Plume’s front door, perfect for a frosty morning stroll, with trails for all abilities.

After a bracing walk, Cornwall’s dog-friendly pubs and tearooms welcome muddy paws and wagging tails. As a county of dog lovers, you’ll never be hard-pressed for pit stops! In fact, here at The Plume, there’s nothing better than winding down with your dog in front of our cosy log fire after a good stomp.

Cornwall’s dog-friendly attractions and events at Christmas

Cornwall is jam-packed with attractions that welcome dogs, and at Christmas? You’ll get to enjoy them in a whole different way (think ice rinks, markets and more).

Week days tend to be quieter with kids back at schools, so you can enjoy many of these iconic locations at a slow pace, and you won’t have to leave your furry best friend behind. Here are some to look forward to on your festive staycation in Cornwall:

Eden Project – While dogs aren’t allowed in the world-famous biomes, they are welcome on the outdoor pathways (where you’ll still have plenty to see) and you’ll also be able to access an undercover dog-friendly dining area.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan – These historic gardens are a must-see for a reason! With outdoor sculptures, beautiful gardens and natural woodland, there’s plenty for dogs and their owners to explore.

Mousehole Harbour Lights – Perhaps the most iconic festive light display in Cornwall, this quaint fishing village glows with festoon lights and Christmas-themed displays that quietly reflect on the sea. Perfect for a magical evening walk with your pup by your side (but we’d recommend avoiding the big switch-on event due to crowds!).

Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens – If you enjoy arts and culture, there’s nothing quite like a dog walk amongst this location’s incredible outdoor art installations, topped off with views over Mounts Bay. With a dog-friendly cafe, you’re set for lunch, too.
