Ten eco-friendly gift ideas

Here are some great ideas for sustainable gifting and they’re all sourced from Cornwall.

Minimising our eco footprint is more important than ever; from how we travel to what we eat, it’s something everyone should be thinking about.

And Christmas should be no exception! The thing is, finding that perfect gift isn’t always easy, especially when you’re trying to keep the planet in mind. But, don’t worry, we’re here to help with our top ten eco-friendly gifts – and they’re all sourced from Cornwall.

Gift set for bath lovers

There’s nothing like switching off with a long, relaxing bath after a busy day at work. Help your loved one ease their aches and pains with this eco-friendly bath set from local artist Helen Round. Each set includes a re-usable make-up pads, handmade soap and shampoo bars, as well as a bamboo bath mitt, sponge and face cloth.

The scent of the sea

Know someone who loves the ocean as much as you do? Give them the scent of the sea with these artisan Cornish candles from the St Eval Candle Company. Whether they live in Cornwall already or desperately miss the rugged coastline, these long-burning candles bring the outside in, and are totally free from any animal products.

Cornish dried flowers

These hand-picked Cornish flowers and wild grasses have been dried for a beautiful decorative touch to any home. They’re even flat-packaged, so, if your giftee isn’t home, they can slip straight through the letterbox.

Sea glass treasure

Hunting for sea glass is a growing trend in Cornwall, and now many of these beachcombers are utilising their colourful treasure to create wearable jewellery. However, Beach Bum Jewellery takes it one step further and uses recycled gold and silver in much of her work, too. You can see the full collection here.

A sustainable kitchen

We know all too well how difficult it can be to rid your kitchen of single-use plastic, so help your friends or family take the first step with these beeswax wraps. Perfect for wrapping cheese, pots, bowls and packed lunches, there will be no need to buy cling film again.

A gift for the gardener

Is there an avid gardener in your life who is passionate about making their garden bee-friendly? Plantaball is a Cornish company that’s striving to make creating bee and butterfly-friendly spaces as easy as possible. So, even if they’re not particularly green-fingered, they can do their bit for the planet, too!

Marine-saving place settings

Sometimes it’s the little things that really count and these beach clean coasters could be the perfect stocking filler. Each one has been made using recycled EVA plastics and sustainable cork, keeping our beaches a little cleaner from microplastics.

Make-your-own

It’s not hard to find ghost nets on our beaches but you don’t have to leave them behind (and if you can dispose of them responsibly, please do!). In fact, you can even make accessories out of them. These bracelet-making kits are all about keeping our marine life safe from the danger of ghost fishing nets, and are perfect for anyone who loves a bit of crafting.

A gift that lasts

Make-up wipes cause havoc for the environment and cotton pads aren’t much better. So, instead, buy the make-up lover in your life some washable make-up pads this Christmas – they (and the planet) will thank you in the long run.

 Time together

Sometimes, the best gifts come from simply spending time together. So, why not book a table or buy a gift voucher for an evening together at The Plume of Feathers? Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, so you’ll be safe in the know that from our electric car charging point, to the locally-sourced food on your plate, we’re doing everything we can to minimise our eco-footprint.
