Make the most of your dog-friendly stay in Cornwall

If you’re looking for an adventure for your family and furry friends alike, it’s time to book your dog-friendly stay in Cornwall.

With miles of beaches, numerous attractions and cafes that all welcome pups, the Duchy is truly a county of dog lovers – and planning your last-minute autumn trip is perfect timing!

Why now? With beach bans lifted, and the summer holidays over, there’s plenty to do without the hassle of bustling crowds, promising you and your four-legged friend a magical weekend escape.

To help you start planning, we’ve pulled together some of our favourite dog-friendly places to visit during your stay (and our team is always here to help if you need more!).

Dog-friendly beaches in Cornwall

One of the top reasons to visit Cornwall in the off-peak season is the lifting of dog bans on beaches. From September onwards, Cornwall’s stunning beaches re-open to pups at all times, meaning your canine companion can paddle in the waves and enjoy the soft sands to their heart’s content.

While there are many beaches to explore, here are some of our favourite sandy pit stops that we love to wander with our furry pals:

  • Perranporth Beach: This vast beach is a doggy paradise, offering long stretches of sand and crashing waves for playful pups to enjoy. While dogs are technically welcome all year, through July and August they are to be kept on leads, so now is the perfect time to let your pooch make the most of this popular beach destination – totally freestyle.
  • Holywell Bay Beach: Only a short drive from the Plume, we particularly love this beautiful beach because it actually allows dogs all year. The towering dunes provide a dramatic backdrop, and your pup will love exploring the nooks and crannies of this favourite beauty spot.
  • Crantock Beach: Just a stone’s throw from Newquay, Crantock Beach offers a quiet respite from town, and welcomes dogs after the busy summer season. The Gannel Estuary flows gently onto the beach here, making it an ideal spot for dogs who love dipping their paws in calmer waters.

Our top dog-friendly attractions

Cornwall isn’t just about the beaches (although they’re a pretty big part of life here!). There are also plenty of dog-friendly attractions to explore, including world-famous heritage sites and gardens.

Here are some you won’t want to miss on your visit:

  • The Eden Project: While dogs aren’t allowed inside the biomes, the outdoor gardens welcome well-behaved dogs on leads. Wander through a world of plants with your pooch by your side and stop for a rest at one of the designated water stations.
  • The Lost Gardens of Heligan: Just 30 minutes from the Plume, Heligan offers miles of garden trails for dogs on leads. It’s a fantastic place to explore and immerse yourself in Cornwall’s natural beauty, especially with the changing colours of the season.
  • Tintagel Castle: If your dog loves a good walk, the dramatic cliffs and ruins of Tintagel Castle are perfect. Explore its history-rich surroundings and marvel at the incredible views from the top – your dog will love the beach at the bottom.

Cornwall’s deliciously dog-friendly foodie stops

Exploring Cornwall with your dog wouldn’t be complete without a post-walk fuel stop at one of our many dog-friendly cafés and restaurants. We wouldn’t want you to miss our favourites:

  • Sam’s On The Beach, Polkerris: Located in the picturesque village of Polkerris, Sam’s On The Beach is a pizza and seafood restaurant, based in an old lifeboat station. Enjoy incredible views of the beach and harbour, with dogs welcome in the bar and on the outdoor terrace.
  • Box & Barber, Newquay: This trendy café is a local favourite, known for its specialty coffee and delicious brunch menu. Dogs are more than welcome, with its laid-back atmosphere and outdoor seating and just steps from the harbour and Towan beaches.
  • Heron Inn, Truro: The Heron Inn is a gastro-pub looking out over Truro river, and allows dogs all throughout the pub. This pub is accessible by car, boat or cycle, and boasts plenty of walks into the surrounding countryside from the doorstep.
