Cornwall beauty spots you won’t want to miss this summer

Wondering which Cornwall beauty spots to add to your summer bucket-and-spade list? From the sandy shores of Gwithian to the dramatic cliffs of Tintagel, each stretch of coast around Cornwall offers something totally different.

And, for those who want a bit of variety, there’s plenty to see inland, too! Think sweeping moorlands, ancient woodlands, and historical sites. Feeling inspired?

Here, we’ve highlighted some of our must-see places on your summer getaway; perfect for any long weekend itinerary.

Gwithian and Godrevy Towans

Gwithian and Godrevy – two beaches that join together at low tide to create a golden paradise – offer some of the best surf, swim, and sunbathing spots in Cornwall. With long swathes of soft sand, meandering dunes, and enough space to wander away from the crowds, this small corner of the county is popular with both visitors and locals alike.

Plus, with a west-facing outlook, it’s the perfect spot for watching the sun go down – especially once those epic summer scenes hit. Expect deep, orange glows, and a community vibe as dog walkers, photographers, couples, and families pause to take in the awe-inspiring view.

Tintagel Coast

Tintagel’s rugged coastline is steeped in lore and myth; a haven for the wild wanderer. Its imposing cliffs and ancient ruins offer something a little more dramatic than Cornwall’s south coastline, begging walkers to come and take a closer look. In fact, with miles of coast path and circular walks to do, a visit here will certainly leave an impression.

Be wary that this stretch of coastline can offer a more challenging walk than others – but with hard work comes high reward! Here, you’ll discover deep descents into valleys and tough climbs to cliff-tops, with panoramic views that are almost unparalleled (and secret beaches to boot). Check out the South West Coast Path’s circular walks, where you can get an idea of what to expect and choose your experience level.

Kynance Cove

We couldn’t make a list of Cornwall beauty spots without including the famous Kynance Cove. With white sand, turquoise sea, and stunning rock formations, you’ll find this spot on most bucket lists – and for good reason!

At low tide, beachgoers can explore the myriad of caves and rockpools bursting with marine biodiversity. Plus, it’s an ideal swimming and coasteering spot (just make sure to always take the correct safety precautions and look out for rip tides!).

Dark green and red serpentinite cliffs also mark Kynance as a spot of geological significance, and, over the years, this unique cove has welcomed famous faces including the likes of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and the poet Alfred Tennyson.

Bodmin Moor

Wander onto Bodmin Moor and you’ll find a wild and striking landscape, known for its granite tors, open moorland, and remote beauty.

Part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Bodmin boasts Cornwall’s highest point, Brown Willy, and the moor’s rugged terrain makes it a popular spot for hiking away from the coastline.

But it’s not just the landscape that draws us here; stone circles like The Hurlers, burial cairns, and ancient settlements offer a glimpse into early human life on the moor, while remnants of Cornwall’s mining past can be found in the ruins of old tin mines and quarries. An abundant adventure spot for any hardy hiker.

Ladock Woods

We may be a bit biased with these woods right on our doorstep, but when the weather starts to warm up? This is one of our favourite places to escape the summer heat.

Perfect for dog walkers and solo hikers alike, this hidden gem boasts a network of trails for walkers of all abilities. A variety of trees, from tall conifers to more native species, like chestnut, beech, and lime, make this woodland a leafy paradise, while historic sites include the likes of the Holy Well of St Laddock.

Plus, with its inland location, it’s a great place to dodge the summer crowds! And if you’d rather swap sand for trees, here’s our full blog on Cornwall’s best woodland locations.
